On Friday and Saturday, I was at the General Synod of the Church of Ireland. This is the governing body of the church which meets once a year. Much of it is fairly dull (I think that’s fair to say), as procedural bills make their way to the floor.

However, there are many items that make their way to the floor that are exciting. This year we heard a presentation from a group of young people called Lighten our Darkness about an innovative environmental programme. We voted on a motion to acknowledge the impact of anti–refugee and migrant hatred in our communities., we committed to providing resources and support around legacy issues, and we talked about making pioneering ministry part of the very DNA of our church institution.

If you are interested in hearing a bit more about the work of the wider church, you might want to have a look at the following website: https://www.ireland.anglican.org/news

Blessings

Rev Rob

PS: Looking forward to seeing you at the fete this Saturday!!!!!

Services this Sunday

Here is the list of Service for Sunday 21st May:

8:30am:  Holy Communion. This will be in the Church building.

11:00am: Holy Communion. This will be in the Church building.

Note that there is no 9:45 service this Sunday. We will be all together in the church and the kids can leave to continue their worship in the centre. The centre will still be recovering from the fete on Saturday, so I think this makes sense for all!

Tiny Teachers

Tiny Teachers is a programme we are running this week as part of Mental Health Awareness week as part of our Kilternan All Minds Matter (KAMM) programme to promote positive mental health.  Tiny Teachers bring a new-born baby and parent into contact with a primary school class while facilitating a conversation to encourage the development and practice of empathy skills.  Research shows that practicing empathetic behaviour improves our ability to effectively manage and respond to our own emotions and be more equipped to handle stressful or emotionally challenging situations.  We ran a trial of Tiny Teachers last year with great feedback.  This year will introduce new relationships and bring back the mother and baby pairs from last year to reconnect and do a follow up session with their respective class who met with them last year.
