Dear Beloved Community,

This is a transitional week for many. The summer holidays are over (although as someone reminded me recently, ‘the weather always picks up when school starts’). For many it’s the beginning of new things – new schools, classes, routines, etc. That brings a mix of excitement and anxiety.  For some of us there is a bit of relief as school begins and the kids are busy (and tired) again. Some are pleased with exam results, some maybe less so.

It is a good time to reflect on our own rhythm and to set some personal goals for the post-summer months.  You might think about taking a faith formation programme such as alpha or connecting with a life group (more information about this coming soon). You might like to deepen your connection with worship, maybe starting back with the Blessing of the Backpack service, or the midweek communion. You might take the opportunity to volunteer! Lots to be done and lots to do.

Blessings,

Rev Rob

Other Happenings

Alpha: Begins Sunday 15th September

If you would like to explore your faith, or encourage a friend or relative to, then this is for you!

Alpha is designed to spend a little time on big questions that can help you enrich and grow your understanding of life, meaning and faith in a fun and relaxed way and is for people of any denomination or faith or indeed none. Alpha is a course with weekly meetings comprising of three parts:

Firstly, there is time to share food together and get to know each other better.

Secondly, there is a talk or video exploring some of the big issues of faith such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us?

Finally, there is a chance to discuss what has been said in a small and safe group where there are no silly questions, no one will judge you for what you say, and you don’t have to even contribute unless you want to.

You may have a burning question or want to say nothing at all – that’s perfectly fine. There are 10 Sunday evening sessions and one Saturday and the course is run once a year in Kilternan Parish Centre starting each September. It may seem like a big commitment so why not come to the first session with a friend and see how you like it? The whole course is free and there is no pressure, just a place to explore life, meaning and faith.

You can sign up via the parish website:  Alpha @ Gathering Grounds 2024 (15-Sep-2024) · ChurchSuite Events
